A bird that imitates any sound

Today we will get acquainted with a unique bird that lives in eastern Australia and Tasmania – this is a large lyre bird or a magnificent lyrebird. These birds are known for their ornate tails, but most importantly, they display some of the most complex vocal skills in the animal kingdom.

A large lyre bird copies the singing of other birds and the cries of animals that it hears around it. It turns out such a convincing imitation that even real birds, whose sounds she imitates, remain deceived. It is well known that the magnificent lyrebird can imitate the calls of at least 20 different animal species.

But the most interesting thing is that the bird can imitate almost any sound it hears in the forest! These can be the sounds of foresters working and their chainsaws, the sound of the shutter and the camera drive mechanism, the sounds of car alarms, and much more.
