Mercedes-Benz continues to amaze its fans with new and exciting concepts. This time, the company presented its vision for the future of car manufacturing in the form of the Vision One-Eleven electric supercar.

Vision One-Eleven is not just another beautiful and powerful electric car. It embodies a whole philosophy that combines elements of retro and futurism, tradition and innovation, classic and avant-garde. Inspired by the tradition of the legendary experimental cars C 111 from Mercedes-Benz of the 60s–70s, Vision One-Eleven represents a modern interpretation of that era. The design of the supercar combines retro-futurism with innovative elements.

Design and Appearance

  • Vision One-Eleven embodies the signature One-Bow design, also visible on the EQ family of production electric cars and the Vision AVTR show car.
  • The narrow rear end with a "strut" diffuser and wheels reminiscent of the copper winding of an electric motor stator give the car expressiveness.
  • The copper-orange body color changes depending on the lighting.

The exterior of Vision One-Eleven impresses with its originality and dynamics. The body is made of carbon fiber and has sleek and smooth lines. The design features massive wheels with aerodynamic spokes that create a levitation effect.

The front end has a distinctive grille with the Mercedes-Benz logo, illuminated with blue light. The rear end features dual taillights and a diffuser that improves aerodynamics and stability. The doors open upwards, like the 300 SL Gullwing, and have transparent inserts that allow a view of the interior details.

Interior and Technology

  • The cabin is designed in the spirit of a living room and changes the setting depending on the selected driving mode.
  • Bold combinations of materials: synthetic white fabric, orange leather, and polished aluminum.
  • Wide-format display with 8-bit graphics and the ability to use augmented reality with Magic Leap 2 glasses.

The interior of Vision One-Eleven is minimalist and futuristic, using high-quality materials such as leather, aluminum, and glass.

The dashboard features a curved display that shows all the necessary information about the car's condition and the environment. The steering wheel has an unusual shape with integrated control buttons. The seats have an ergonomic design, providing comfort and safety for the driver and passenger. The interior also has a special compartment for storing luggage and personal items.

Technical Specifications

  • Electric powertrain with a battery of a new chemical composition and cylindrical cells with liquid cooling.
  • Two YASA axial flux electric motors, providing power and compactness.

The latest technologies include a new battery concept, featuring high-performance cylindrical elements with liquid cooling and a new chemical composition. Additionally, Vision One-Eleven is equipped with two exceptionally powerful and modern axial flux motors from YASA (a British electric motor manufacturer).

"Axial flux motors are significantly lighter and more compact, yet more powerful than comparable radial flux motors currently used in 99 percent of all electric vehicles. In an axial flux motor, the electromagnetic flux flows parallel to the axis of rotation, which is very efficient. In a radial flux motor, the flux flows perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Compared to radial flux motors, they have a significantly higher and more durable power reserve, providing an entirely new level of performance."

Tim Woolmer, Founder and Chief Technical Officer of YASA.

In addition to power and torque density, another important advantage is the narrow casing, which reduces its weight and dimensions. The weight of the axial flux motor is only one-third of the weight of modern electric motors of the same output power. At the same time, it requires only one-third of the space occupied by a radial motor. This opens up entirely new possibilities for engineers, as well as new freedom in electric vehicle design, as demonstrated by Vision One-Eleven.
