How to reset your day
Surely every person has had situations when everything goes wrong and he thinks that nothing can be done. Or when everything went wrong in the morning. But morning emotions set the tone for the whole day. You don't know what steps you need to take to not only save the day, but also make a qualitative breakthrough in it.
You have a very strong quarrel with someone, get angry at yourself and at others. Everything is very bad. But even worse is to continue to remain in this mood until the very night. We see, know and understand that the mood is completely spoiled, but we do not make any attempts to change something.
So, what needs to be done to reset all negative emotions and feel fresh? Remember the four steps that will allow you to reset your day.
The first step
Think back to this morning and ask yourself the question: “Did you know what you had to do exactly today?” Because many do not know or did not know. They go to work, check their mail, do their business, but they do it automatically. They do not even think about doing something better, because this is a direct consequence of automatism. And what happens in the end? All these people do is react, react, react, react, react. All day long they respond to letters, to requests from colleagues, to their phone.
Here two options are possible:
- First: the number of events to which a reaction is required ends and the person is left with nothing. He is so used to reacting to what is happening that now he is discouraged, because he does not know what to do. He doesn't have any strategy.
- Second: the number of events that require a reaction increases every hour and the person is simply stunned, he is torn to pieces.
Both options are the same when it comes to productivity and awareness.
Therefore, if you feel that the day has gone wrong, remember how you should have behaved in the morning, what are your priorities, what are your goals. Clear it up for yourself. What kind of people do you need to achieve your goals? Try, if possible, not to be distracted by others and not drag yourself into another meaningless dialogue and aimless pastime. And whatever happens, you know where you're going. You will not have time to dramatize your life and be sad, because you clearly know what you need.
The second step
Take time to reboot. Judge for yourself, if the day is not already set, what will you lose? It will not be better, and it is pointless to put pressure on the same point. Stop doing what you are doing and take a step back. Just take and walk, listen to your favorite music. When you get back (home or office), sit down and write down the three tasks you need to complete today. This is extremely important. Thousands of thoughts go through your head every day, they take you far and make you do what you don’t need to. When three tasks are written on paper, they are in front of your eyes. It clears the mind, makes you stop the endless stream of thoughts and focus on your business.
Also write about what reward you will receive after completing these three tasks. It's not only about what you achieve by completing the three tasks, but also what reward you get for it. Remember that motivation and reward always go hand in hand. If the day is ruined, it is also ruined because you do not think about what reward awaits you in the evening. If you remind yourself of this, it will give strength. Don't think about hundreds of your problems, think about three tasks and a reward. Let the reward be a trip to the cinema or a cafe, reading a pleasant book or a pleasant dinner in the family circle. This is a special feeling when you realize that you deserve all this. You did a good job, completed the three most important tasks, and now you order a pizza or take a warm bath – and you deserve it.
The third step
Do some nice social action that doesn't take long. Call your parents or someone you like and ask how they are doing. Talk to the person at work that you've always liked and lifted your spirits.
The feeling that there are people around you that you like will improve your mood and reset your day. We always forget that there are pleasant things and that is why we feel irritated. Remind yourself of this, it will take quite a bit of time.
Fourth step
Talk to yourself. Yes, it's not the same as random thoughts running through your head. This is an active process and you are talking, directing your thoughts in the right direction.
Feel free to use affirmations (these are self-hypnosis phrases that help a person tune his mind to a positive wave). But do not limit yourself to only them, ask questions, answer them.
Speaking of affirmations, an amazing thing happens when you tell yourself over and over again that you are calm and everything is fine – at first the thought that everything is not so bad is carried by. Then a couple of others, more calm. And then you finally realize that you have calmed down. Many people would like to calm down, but do not apply such a simple method in their lives.
At the end of your self-talk, say something like, "Let's go!" You can come up with your own phrase, simple and understandable, consisting of one to three words. Think about the words that usually enthrall you. After all, there were days when you just lifted your mood with them. So increase it every day, the magical effect of these words will not disappear due to repeated repetition.
