In our time, the standard IQ test is becoming a thing of the past, because there was no direct relationship between success in life and the level of happiness on the IQ. And emotional intelligence entered the arena. It is the ability to manage your emotions that is most valued in the 21st century.
Emotional intelligence is the ability of a person to recognize emotions, understand the intentions, motivations and desires of other people and their own, as well as the ability to manage their emotions and the emotions of other people in order to solve practical problems.
The concept of emotional (social) intelligence emerged as a reaction to the frequent failure of traditional intelligence tests to predict a person's career and life success. An explanation was found for this, which was that successful people are able to interact effectively with other people based on emotional connections, and to effectively manage their own emotions, while the accepted concept of intelligence did not include these aspects, and intelligence tests (IQ) did not evaluate these abilities.
To determine the degree of emotional development of a person, the concept of the emotional coefficient EQ (Eng. Emotional Quotient, by analogy with the English Intelligence Quotient, IQ) was introduced. Emotional intelligence theory flourished in the 1980s and 1990s. At the beginning of the 21st century, the development of the concept of emotional intelligence continued even more actively, and today the emotional development quotient (EQ) is valued much higher than the intellectual development quotient (IQ).
The opinion of the well-known scientific journalist Daniel Goleman (author of the popular science book Emotional Intelligence, in which he described the history of the development of the theory of emotional intelligence) regarding the importance of the emotional development of a person, we have already considered earlier in this article.
And now, to evaluate your EQ, we suggest taking a small test. Naturally, this test, as well as others, gives only some very approximate and “averaged” answer to the question posed. In life, of course, everything is much more complicated. Therefore, do not take it too seriously, its function is rather an entertainment-auxiliary one. But at the same time, the test result is a reason to think.
