How warm should a child be?

When a child moves a lot, his natural desire is to get naked and expose himself to the wind. Seeing this, parents most often shout: “Zip up, you will catch a cold!” This is incomprehensible to children, in addition, parents "set the mind on the disease." Wouldn't it be better to dress your child appropriately for the weather and activity instead? If the child is cold, then the parents will immediately find out about it, because the child perceives the cold as pain, and children cannot stand pain.

Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Medical Sciences, the most famous diagnostician and clinician in the country, Professor Tatochenko Vladimir Kirillovich writes the following about this:

I am often asked: “how to find out how much clothes you need to put on a child so that he is not cold, how to find out how a child feels?”. As for feelings, it's hard to say. Count how many layers of clothing you are wearing – on the upper and lower half of the body, put on the same amount on the child. If he will run on the street, remove one layer, if you are taking him on a sled, add one layer. Make it a rule not to put on a child more than one layer of warm knitted clothes; before the onset of frost, the child’s legs should not be covered with more than one layer, whether it be tights or pants. But why, tell me, does a ten-year-old boy put on shorts, tights and trousers at a temperature of minus five degrees, when his mother still walks with “uninsulated” legs?

It remains to be hoped that the parents who read these lines will follow the advice of a well-known pediatrician, and their children will not even have five or six layers of clothing on them even in winter, as is often the case.

What should be the room temperature? It is best if it is not higher than 18-20 degrees – "invigorating". However, in most homes, parents try to “so that the child does not catch a cold”, maintain a temperature of about 24-26 degrees, which often leads to the opposite effect – overheating leads to a constant increase in heat transfer – expansion of skin vessels and increased sweating, which in the event of a sudden cold exposure can actually lead to hypothermia.
