Misconceptions about scorpions

Currently, scientists have about 700 species of scorpions. This animal is a rather original symbol of the desert.

However, the most diverse and numerous are scorpions that live in the tropics and subtropics. They also live high in the mountains (at an altitude of 3-4 kilometers).

Some people think that scorpions are insects. But in fact, these are arachnids such as arthropods.

Another myth about scorpions is the belief that they deliberately try to sting a sleeping person.

Of course, this is not true. And the venom of a scorpion for an adult is not fatal; but when bitten by large tropical species, there is a danger of death for children, in any case, several such deaths have been recorded.

Did you know that these animals sometimes live in our homes? But do not be afraid, we are talking about false scorpions – small arachnids that can live in books in libraries and archives, on bookshelves in apartments.

These book pseudoscorpions are very useful creatures for us, because they prey on those smallest insects that harm books: hay eaters, larvae of grinder beetles, ticks, book lice.
