The new model of the ID family is a spacious all-wheel drive vehicle with electric motors on the front and rear axles, a fully automated ID Pilot driving mode and a new generation of controls and displays.

Volkswagen brand board member responsible for technical development, Dr. Frank Welsch, said:

"Concept car I.D. BUZZ is the car of the future built on the MEB electric modular platform. The model provides maximum comfort during operation and has the necessary space even for long journeys. In the new European test cycle (NEFZ), the range on a single battery charge reaches 600 km.”

The new energy concept car receives induction or using a charging station. With a charging power of 150 kW, charging the battery to 80% takes approximately 30 minutes.

New concept car I.D. BUZZ with a range of up to 600 km and seats for eight passengers. An all-wheel drive, zero-emission electric car with space for bicycles and snowboards.

The first model of the ID family (Volkswagen I.D.), which premiered at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, is also groundbreaking. The compact electric vehicle, which will hit the market in 2020, will have a range of up to 600 km and will be the first mass-produced vehicle built on the MEB platform. Volkswagen I.D. – the first conceptual model of the brand, capable of moving in a fully automatic mode.

New concept Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ is the first electric minivan in which autopilot is also possible. All it takes is a slight push on the steering wheel and it pulls back, switching the car from manual control mode to the fully autonomous ID Pilot mode, which will be available from 2025. Thanks to this function, the driver can turn his seat back and sit facing other passengers. A laser scanner, ultrasonic and radar sensors, Area View cameras and a front camera recognize the surroundings, and additional traffic information is transmitted via a cloud service.

The show car lacks the usual driver's seat. With the help of the AR Head-up Display, the electric vehicle projects all the important information in 3D mode into the driver's field of vision, creating a virtual image on the road. Features such as the infotainment and air conditioning functions are controlled via a removable tablet computer. However, the controls important for the driving process are located on the steering wheel. Its inside does not have the usual spokes and buttons, but is equipped with a touch panel – this is how a classic steering wheel turns into a multifunctional control panel.

A mobile living room for eight – this is how the manufacturer characterizes the interior of the concept.

Its main highlight is the transformation system, which allows for many arrangements of chairs and tables. Some of them involve the location of the front passengers facing the rear (in this case, the car behaves itself).

The atmosphere of the living room is emphasized by ambient lighting and finishing materials, in particular, wooden flooring.

vwpress.co.uk

The augmented reality system displays clues about the world around you on the windshield.

The touch steering wheel is also a screen (offline retracts into the front panel). Between the seats is a removable tablet.

The central multifunctional console ID Box slides and retracts.

The length of the car is 4943 mm, width – 1976, height – 1963 mm, and the wheelbase extends to 3299 mm. These figures are important given the fact that there are short overhangs, and all units are tightly packed under the floor.

vwpress.co.uk

Due to this, the lion's share of the total area of \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbthe car was allocated just “for housing”.

Thanks to the rails in the floor, the chairs can be turned into a living room and a bedroom.

According to the developers, the solutions used in the car will appeal to both a large family going on a picnic and a rock band going on tour.

No other electric vehicle uses interior space as efficiently as a concept car. I.D. BUZZ – the model has up to eight seats. With a variety of seating options and connecting the minivan to an interactive network, many new possibilities open up. At 4942mm long, 1976mm wide and 1963mm high, the extended MEB-XL platform creates an unbelievably spacious cabin for its class.

Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ becomes one of the most comfortable cars in the world. The electric car has a wheelbase 3300 mm long. The battery is located at the bottom of the car between the wheels, which lowers the center of gravity and ensures ideal weight distribution. Chassis Volkswagen I.D. BUZZ with adjustable shock absorbers provides the comfort characteristic of premium cars. Zero emission all-wheel drive with a total output of 275 kW/374 hp. (one 150 kW electric motor each front and rear) perfectly matches the dynamic nature of the show car. It accelerates to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds, the maximum speed of the model reaches 160 km/h.

Ten laser scanners (four of which pop out of the roof) and other sensors provide the show car with all-round vision and readiness for fully autonomous movement (this ID Pilot feature has been promised in the series since 2025).

By the way, instead of mirrors there is a set of cameras. Such elements of electric cars of the future as 150 kW wireless charging and fully self-parking are also announced.

Engineers have tried to make the Microbus of the new era as friendly to the inhabitants as possible and easy to use, both due to thoughtful design and interface.

vwpress.co.uk

The machine "communicates" with the outside world through LED illumination. So, the headlights imitate open / closed / winking and changing color of the eyes, showing the mode of movement and the state of the car.

The concept successfully combines retro notes with modern elements – LED optics and original 22-inch wheels painted in Galvano Gray.

Volkswagen Brand Chairman Dr. Herbert Diess commented: “I.D. BUZZ – modern, bright and future-oriented. We want to make electromobility a new symbol of the brand and we plan to sell a million electric cars annually starting in 2025.

Concept I.D. Buzz announced as a demonstration of future electric mobility. And here the main emphasis is not on the electric drive as such, but on the constant connection of the car to the personal "digital universe" of the owner.

vwpress.co.uk

The MEB platform is modular and provides for machine variations in length and technical parameters. So, on its own basis, you can create a simpler and lighter rear-wheel drive version of an electric car with a single motor with a capacity of 272 hp. and a battery of “only” 83 kWh.

vwpress.co.uk

Aside from the paint scheme (a combination of Silver Metallic and Cyber Yellow Pearl), nods to the concept's past are a large nose badge (luminous) and three vents on the C-pillar, commemorating its rear-engined ancestors.

vwpress.co.uk

All doors of the concept are equipped with an electric drive and open by touching certain areas on the body, recognizing the driver and passengers by digital keys. The Volkswagen User-ID system recognizes the occupants and adjusts seats, music, climate control and a pre-selected route for them. However, in manual control mode, the car should please the driver. For the tenacity of the chassis is responsible for the low center of gravity, as well as the adaptive suspension (rear – pneumatic multi-link).

vwpress.co.uk

Mass implementation of the new platform will begin by 2020. And by 2025, the Volkswagen Group intends to launch as many as 30 new electric cars, which in total will be sold in quantities of at least a million annually. It is known that among them there will be not only battery versions of conventional models, but also cars, originally designed specifically as electric vehicles. In particular, the company's management promised to present serial analogues of the Budd-e and ID concepts in a few years. Apparently, and Buzz is somehow transformed into a conveyor sample.
