Renault SYMBIOZ embodies the concept of the car of the future, where the concept car and the house are harmoniously integrated not only with each other, but also in human life. The SYMBIOZ concept envisages that by 2030 autonomous electric integrated cars will become in demand, which will interact with smart homes, cities, other cars and road infrastructure.

Thierry Bolloré, Group Competitiveness Director, Renault Group, commented:

“The purpose of the car is gradually changing. Already today, a car is more than a way to get from one point to another. Today's high-tech vehicles are slowly evolving into an interactive, personalized space that connects the driver and passengers with other vehicles, people and objects around them.

From today until 2030, we will offer various autonomous driving projects that will significantly improve the lives of our customers and allow them to rethink the capabilities of their car. These ideas are already being reflected in Renault production vehicles today.”

Renault SYMBIOZ makes the mobile home concept a reality. A multifunctional interior allows you to enjoy a new experience of using a car that is at the center of your ecosystem.

The Renault SYMBIOZ concept is based on all-electric engines and is part of the company's global strategy to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

Renault, Europe's leader in electric vehicle sales, has developed SYMBIOZ to show how energy can be exchanged between car and home. Energy is transmitted through a single intelligent network for the car and home and is controlled by artificial intelligence, which guesses the needs of a person. For example, the system can be programmed to use the energy stored in the car's battery to power lights, screens, and home appliances during peak hours. If there is a power outage in the house, the car will act as a backup source of energy, the flow of which can be configured and monitored.

Surrounded by comfort, SYMBIOZ takes over and drives you safely and securely to your destination.

The Renault SYMBIOZ concept is based on all-electric engines and is part of the company's global strategy to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

The weight of the batteries has been distributed to optimize traction, while the two electric motors provide a combined power output of 500 kW and a maximum torque of 660 Nm, and a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of less than six seconds.

The concept car has a variety of driving modes available, including Classic, Dynamic and Autonomous Driving. Thanks to the cab's modular design, Autonomous Driving allows three different ways to set up space.

Koreans from LG participated in the development of the human-machine interface. Ubisoft has been making virtual reality for offline use. Devialet provided the sound system, and Sanef, TomTom and IAV also helped.

Symbiosis of vehicle and living space

With Renault SYMBIOZ, your car becomes an integral part of your living space. It has been designed as an extension of your home. Shapes, colors, materials, solutions... Everything is designed to make you feel like you never leave your home while traveling. And when you stay at home, your car becomes an extra room in it. Convenient interior and digital functions are always at your disposal.

Movement in the mobile room

Thanks to the various autopilot modes, there is no longer a need to manually drive the SYMBIOZ... However, you can also take control if you wish. In room mode, the front seats rotate 180° to offer you a new driving experience. If you couldn't see the landscape rushing by through the glass roof, you wouldn't even feel like you were on the road.

Fully interactive ecosystem

SYMBIOZ makes the most of interactive and smart home features. Your home automatically charges your car, and your car can meet your home's electricity needs. The car and the house recognize each other, and provide for their own needs. With SYMBIOZ, you are constantly in a digital ecosystem without any space restrictions, which is designed to make life easier.

Renault SYMBIOZ – industry pioneer

Renault SYMBIOZ is the first concept car connected to the house. The SYMBIOZ concept demonstrates various scenarios for how the car can be used inside or near the home, as well as while traveling.

  • In the first case, SYMBIOZ is located in the house and acts as an additional modular hall in the form of a red, mobile, interactive space.
  • In the second scenario, SYMBIOZ illustrates a situation where the car becomes an extension of the home while traveling. The large cabin space is due to the SYMBIOZ's redesigned rear wheels, two electric motors located on the rear axle and batteries under the floor. The dashboard combination, which consists of rotating front seats, makes the SYMBIOZ ideal for autonomous driving in "mind-off" mode. In this mode, the driver can relax and chat with passengers, read a book or connect to the Internet. At that time, personalization technology allows you to automatically detect the driver and passengers, adjust the seats for them, play their favorite music and offer a wide range of infotainment options.

The name "symbiosis" should be understood primarily as the connection of an electric vehicle with a "smart home". The Renault SYMBIOZ concept hatchback looks ahead to 2030, when Level XNUMX autonomous driving will be commonplace.

The interior of the car will become a continuation of the living space, with which a constant exchange of data and energy has been established.

Mind-off mode is the fourth of five levels of autonomous control, according to the SAE International (Society of Automotive Engineers) system. Level 4 relieves the driver of any dynamic driving tasks when the automatic vehicle motion system is activated, even if the driver does not respond to a request for intervention.

Laurens van den Acker, senior vice president of corporate design, said:

“The first series of concept cars within the design concept of a flower, in which each petal symbolizes its own life stage, sought to provide the style and capabilities of new production models. Now our new concept cars will explore what kind of car awaits a person in the future.

SYMBIOZ is an integral part of everyday life, it is more than just a means of transportation. To achieve this, we decided to optimize the role of the car and home by physically linking them and making them as modular and integrated as possible.”

The serial Symbioz in 2023 will be almost five meters, two tons, 490-horsepower and capable of running 400 km without recharging.
